Jailed: Ex-Royal Navy officer Dean Priestley stole £1million from a criminal gang who had asked him to smuggle the money into Spain A Falklands veteran went on an international spending spree after stealing £1million from criminals who had asked him to smuggle the money into Spain. Ex-Royal Navy officer Dean Priestley, 47, spent £477,000 in just six months on luxury items including a house, four cars, three overseas holidays and a diamond pendant for his wife. He even bought a £230,000 Sealine S48 motor cruiser so he could more easily hide from the Manchester criminals he stole from. Priestley paid for holidays to Spain, Amsterdam, and a £4,000 trip to Australia. The father-of-two was jailed for three-and-a-half years at Hull Crown Court in March after pleading guilty to conspiring to convert criminal property. His sentence can only today be reported after a jury found his wife Derry Priestley guilty of helping him launder money. She will be sentenced next month. Priestley went on the run in January 2008, fleeing his £900,000 Grade II listed water mill home in Bielby, East Yorkshire. He opened bank accounts in his privately-educated sons' names and began depositing thousands in stolen cash.
